Awards Show To Be Webcast By TheaterMania.com

New York, NY, March 25, 2003 -- The 48TH ANNUAL DRAMA DESK AWARDS, celebrating excellence in all sectors of New York's theatre world, will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2003, at the Concert Hall in F.H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts at Lincoln Center, it was announced by David Sheward, Co-President of the Drama Desk, and Robert R. Blume, Executive Producer of the awards ceremony and show. This year, for the first time, the awards presentation ceremony will be webcast by TheaterMania (www.theatermania.com), the fastest growing theatre Web portal on the Internet today, which is joining the Drama Desk team as a major sponsor. TheaterMania.com, which registers over 600,000 visitors a month and covers 36 theatre markets worldwide, will exclusively handle all ticketing, including the sale of the limited tickets available to the public.

"We are very excited by our new relationship with TheaterMania," said Executive Producer Robert R. Blume. "Theatre lovers all over the globe will be able to follow the awards presentations live on the webcast as they happen, and to view, within 48 hours of the ceremony's conclusion, special video highlights of the Drama Desk Awards, available at all times. This is especially important this year since we have no TV broadcast commitments as of this date. Both NY1 News, which covered the awards live for the past seven years, and THIRTEEN/WNET, which rebroadcast the awards telecast the past two years, had to drop out because of budgetary problems."
