EMMY AWARD WINNER RUE McCLANAHAN
TO HOST THE 47TH ANNUAL DRAMA DESK AWARDS
Rue McClanahan, who won an Emmy Award as best actress in a comedy series for her role as 'Blanche' in NBC's Golden Girls, will host The 47th Annual Drama Desk Awards on Sunday, May 19, at 9:00 PM. The Awards Show will be telecast live in its entirety by NY1 News which will also re-broadcast the program on Saturday, May 25, at 7:00 PM. (For the second consecutive year, THIRTEEN/WNET, New York's premier public television station, will broadcast the entire awards program on Monday, May 27, at 9:00 PM.
Ms. McClanahan, who earlier this season was on Broadway in the Roundabout Theatre's star-studded revival of Clare Booth Luce's 1936 play, "The Women," is a seasoned stage actress whose previous Broadway credits include starring roles in Jimmy Shine, California Suite and Sticks and Bones. Some of her Off Broadway credits include Who's Happy Now?, for which she received an Obie Award, as well as MacBird!, The Secret World of Walter Mitty, Tonight! In Living Color!, Dark of the Moon, Dylan, Afterplay and the acclaimed Vagina Monologues in New York and Los Angeles.
The 47th Annual Drama Desk Awards will originate from the Concert Hall at F.H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. The awards telecast is presented by TheatreSport, Ltd., Robert R. Blume, Executive Producer. The telecast will be produced by Lauren Class Schneider and directed by Jeff Kalpak.
Organized in 1949, the Drama Desk is comprised of theatre critics, editors and writers who cover the New York theatre scene. It is the only organization whose award nominations honor all areas of New York theatre equally - Broadway, Off Broadway, Off Off Broadway and not-for profit.
